Volant air intake systems utilize a high-velocity venturi filter adapter which provides a smooth transition through the MAF sensor into the intake tube for a much needed airflow improvement over the factory rubber tubing and resonator box. Volant's Cool Air box is larger than the factory unit and incorporates a larger opening to collect a higher volume of colder ambient air.

I am very happy with the way this cold air intake performs. But as the other reviews have said only one of the bolt holes lines up. And it will sit on your AC line, and some electrical wiring with out some sort of spacer underneath of the box.
I own two of these. One on a Chevy Suburban install was spot on. As for the Toyota TACOMA the holes only line up on one side and the other I had to drill out. Plus it wants to rest on the AC lines. I did not like that, so I pulled the rubber grommets out of the stock intake box and shimmed the Volant up off the AC line. Other than that it’s great and sounds awesome.

Install was cake, only hiccup was the one hole didn’t line up in the bottom of the air box, super easy fix with a drill bit, made the proper hole installed the air box, installed the Donaldson filter and reconnected the battery. Truck idled and ran weird for about 10 minutes as it relearned fuel maps. After that it ran like a dream. The snorkel amplifies the intake noise into an absolutely BEAUTIFUL sound. At low throttle positions you’d never know it was there, at half throttle it’s a growl, and at full throttle it sounds like a banshee! For those of you who suffer from the second wind effect, (you can get an extra pep in your acceleration around 3500 RPM) I can honestly say it’s removed this uneven acceleration feeling from the truck, and when I’m not listening to the beautiful noises coming from the snorkel I picked up some MPG too! Not a ton but it helps pay for itself in miles and smiles per gallon! Well done Volant, install was almost painless (fix that hole alignment and it will be!) the performance benefits are real, and the MPG increase claims are valid, the powercore filter definitely looks like the most robust solution for a CAI I’ve seen so far, and it doesn’t seem to affect the performance one bit either.
Toyota Tacoma comes with a stock closed box air intake with an added air cleaner box that can be replaced with a straight pipe saving you a few hundred dollars (really began to like this idea after the Volant install as performance and mpg was nearly the same; very very slight increase). I do like the Volant box with its clear lid which makes it easier to do a visual without opening the box. I would prefer the lid to have buckles rather than bolts for easier removal. INSTALLATION: Straight forward Installation with easy removal of stock closed box air intake and air cleaner. Box bolt pattern off set by 3/16 inch and I did not want to make more holes, instead used 1 bolt with lock washer to hold box in place (seems to work for now). OVERALL: Very slight increase to performance and MPG after removal of secondary stock air cleaner (as this was replaced with the straight pipe that came with the Volant closed box kit). Noticed a .3 MPG gain with slight more power/responsiveness beyond 3k rpms (I have a manual Tacoma) which I attribute to the replacement of the secondary air cleaner box with the straight pipe which reduced air restriction.
Everything was easy with the install, box sounds great. One issue, I assume due to the power core filter is the CEL I am getting. Alot more air is flowing so you may need to get a different filter or tune. Other than that, it's great.
Make sure you follow the directions and disconnect the negative battery cables long enough so the computer can learn clean.
Install was a breeze. Like 20min 30 tops. Holes DO NOT line up. I had to open it up a bit in order to get it to sit securely. Once installed all WAS well. It makes the truck sound creat but now the taco check engine light came on and its reading that the maf is bad. Trac light came on and vehicle wont allow cruise control. Not sure if its to do with the cai or just coincidence that perhaps the gas cap isnt sealing. I will need to investigate further and i will report back with findings. I will edit this review and or leave another.
